Dewsbury Rams are delighted to announce that 24 year old front row/back-rower James Thornton has joined the club on a one year deal. The young forward has risen up the game quickly and has had previous spells at Hemel Stags, Featherstone Rovers and Sheffield Eagles. The Dewsbury born, Bradford Bulls academy product joined the Hemel Stags for his first move in the sport. After impressing in the League One side he got a move to Championship team Featherstone. Unfortunately Thornton suffered an ACL injury whilst there. However he made a full recovery and left Rovers to join the Eagles. He […]
Esslemont Swaps Sheffield for Rams
Dewsbury Rams can announce that loose-forward Sonny Esslemont has signed for the club on a one year contract. The 25 year old loose-forward last season played for the Sheffield Eagles, however he’s now decided to switch South Yorkshire for West Yorkshire. Esslemont has played for various clubs in the past starting out at Hull KR, before being loaned out to Gateshead Thunder. He’s also had spells at Keighley Cougars, Hemel Stags and Sheffield Eagles. Dewsbury Rams recently announced the new signing of prop Sam Moorhouse on a one year deal, the 18 year old has arrived from Betfred Super League side Leeds Rhinos. Head coach Lee Greenwood has been told great things about Moorhouse and so he wanted him in his 2020 squad. Dewsbury Rams can today announce that it will have a dual-reg agreement in place with Betfred Super League side Hull KR for the 2020 season. Rams chairman Mark Sawyer said on the agreement: “Firstly I’d like to say how excited I am that we can work with Hull KR in this way. Dewsbury Rams can announce new signing prop Sam Moorhouse from Leeds Rhinos on a one year deal. Moorhouse is 18 years of age and has risen through the Rhinos academy. He has now earned a contract at Dewsbury. He is head coach Lee Greenwood’s fourth new signing going into the 2020 campaign. On signing Moorhouse, Greenwood said: “Sam is one of a number of lads that have found themselves being too old for Academy rugby now that the age range has gone down to under 18s. Dewsbury Rams captain Paul Sykes has signed a new one year contract at the club. Sykes came to Dewsbury in 2016 and immediately became a fans favourite. The local lad immediately impressed the supporters with his all action play and passion for his home town team. The 38 year old has committed to a fourth year with the Rams and has reiterated his desire to finish his career off at the club. In what will be a new role for Sykes, as well as being the club captain he’ll also become part of the backroom staff taking on assistant duties. […]
