Dewsbury Rams can announce that loose-forward Sonny Esslemont has signed for the club on a one year contract.

The 25 year old loose-forward last season played for the Sheffield Eagles, however he’s now decided to switch South Yorkshire for West Yorkshire.

Esslemont has played for various clubs in the past starting out at Hull KR, before being loaned out to Gateshead Thunder. He’s also had spells at Keighley Cougars, Hemel Stags and Sheffield Eagles. He’s also played for Scotland on the international stage having made his debut in 2014 in the European Cup. He played in all of Scotland’s matches throughout October and November 2014, he did the same a year later.

On Esslemont signing for the club head coach Lee Greenwood said: “I’m pleased to get Sonny on board for 2020. He is coming in to his prime years now and wants to get settled at a club he is happy at.

“I have followed his career since he came through at Hull KR and I believe there is a lot more to come from him. He has a good understanding of the game and is a smart player. I am confident he can become a regular here for years to come.”
