Greenwood previews Whitehaven game

After a disappointing result last time out Dewsbury travel to Whitehaven today to try and turn the tide.

Lee Greenwood spoke to the media team about the crucial clash.

“It’s fair to say we have been struggling for form and consistency lately, with the last 2 results being particularly disappointing for us all.

“For the last few months, we have been down to our last 17/18 players each week, generally losing players the day before or on the day of the game for various reasons.

“While this has no doubt affected what happens on the pitch, I couldn’t have asked for any more of the players in terms of their effort or attitude. While plenty of things have not gone well during games, they have always given it everything and I know our fortunes will change soon.

“We played Whitehaven twice right at the start of the season and both were very hard fought contests. A lot has changed since then, but I have full belief that we can travel up and give a good account of ourselves. We will need to be defensively good against their big guys and try to nullify the threat from Newton and Philips at dummy half, but they have quality players across the pitch, including McNally, Jouffret, Williams and Walmsley.

“The start of games are always important when you are going up to Cumbria. Many times teams find themselves behind early in the game, while they are still ‘sat on the bus’.

“We have managed to bring in Riley Dean and Robson Stevens this week, along with Jimmy Beckett who we got back last week. They have given us a boost in numbers and as a group we are looking forward to the game and trying to turn our season around.”
