Those Green and White hoops! By David Hyomes
For many years now, success in the world of amateur Rugby League has been cyclical, with honours shared around amongst many clubs in the National and County Cups, the National Conference League and the regional leagues. It has not always been so. In previous eras, the silverware was dominated by a small band of big guns. In Lancashire, the dominant force was Pilkington Recs, whilst over in the east it was Hull Dockers who made opponents fear to tread! The other superpower came from our own town of Dewsbury in the shape of the iconic Dewsbury Celtic club. Their green […]

Dewsbury at Wembley, by David Hyomes
Discovering that Dewsbury had a Rugby League team as a young boy was an exciting moment for me and one thing my Dad told me about the club resonated with me more than anything else. That was that Dewsbury had played in the first Challenge Cup final to be staged at Wembley – and I was keen to know more about it! The first ever Challenge Cup final was in 1897 when our local rivals, Batley, defeated St Helens 10-3 at Headingley. Getting to know… Joe Martin
Following his arrival at the club last season, Dewsbury Rams fullback Joe Martin has quickly become a fans favourite here at The Tetley’s Stadium. His ability to chime into the team’s attack has excited supporters, while he has proven himself ever-reliable under the high ball. Martin previously played for Halifax and made his debut in the Red, Amber and Black against Rochdale, scoring a brace of tries, as the Rams secured a comfortable victory. Now in his first full season with the club, we chatted with Joe to get to know him a little better. What’s your first memory of […]

Maureen Kelly Funeral
Today is the funeral of Maureen Kelly at 11,40am, the loving wife of Neil Kelly & Mum to Emily, Sophie & Harriet. Due to the Coronavirus restrictions the funeral can only be attended by a small number of family. However the Kelly family have asked that to commemorate Maureen people if they so wish can donate to Cancer Research. Here is the link to donate. https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/maureen-kelly

Getting to know… Andy Gabriel
Andy Gabriel was one of the first new signings made by Rams head coach Lee Greenwood ahead of the 2019 season. The former Keighley winger overcame competition for places to cement his spot on the right flank during his debut campaign and continued from where he’d left off at the start of 2020. Now established in the Red, Amber and Black, we spoke to Gabes to get an insight into what makes him tick on and off the pitch. What’s your first memory of rugby? “It would have to be my first ever game for West Bowling, which was probably […]
