Getting to know… Joe Martin
Following his arrival at the club last season, Dewsbury Rams fullback Joe Martin has quickly become a fans favourite here at The Tetley’s Stadium. His ability to chime into the team’s attack has excited supporters, while he has proven himself ever-reliable under the high ball. Martin previously played for Halifax and made his debut in the Red, Amber and Black against Rochdale, scoring a brace of tries, as the Rams secured a comfortable victory. Now in his first full season with the club, we chatted with Joe to get to know him a little better. What’s your first memory of […]

Rugby League and the Second World War, by David Hyomes
First of all, I am sure the feelings of all Dewsbury Rams fans are ones of pure frustration. Whilst Rugby League takes a back seat to the serious ramifications of Coronavirus, the fact remains that our fantastically encouraging start to the season has been cruelly cut short. Even this pandemic cannot be compared to the devastation of war but there are eerie similarities. The 1939-40 season started on schedule on Saturday 26th August and the fixture list continued uninterrupted until Saturday 2nd September, with clubs having played two or three games. The following day Sunday – 3rd September – saw […]

Rugby League United is a response to requests from Government, the NHS and Sport England for sport to take the lead in keeping people mentally as well as physically fit during these challenging times. Dewsbury at Wembley, by David Hyomes
Discovering that Dewsbury had a Rugby League team as a young boy was an exciting moment for me and one thing my Dad told me about the club resonated with me more than anything else. That was that Dewsbury had played in the first Challenge Cup final to be staged at Wembley – and I was keen to know more about it! The first ever Challenge Cup final was in 1897 when our local rivals, Batley, defeated St Helens 10-3 at Headingley. The final continued to be staged in the north until that landmark year of 1929, when the Rugby […]
