RFL’s latest update
The Rugby Football League today welcomes further Government support as part of the ‘Sport Winter Survival Package’. The support is in the form of an additional £12m loan facility to the professional game following the Government’s request that sports model the impact on their sport of the absence of spectators until possibly April 1. The RFL continues to work with Sport England in terms of specific support for Community Rugby League, including Women’s and Girls’ Rugby League, building on the considerable assistance already received. Chapman-Smith joins Rams
Dewsbury Rams are delighted to announce that fullback/halfback Reece Chapman-Smith has joined the club for the 2021 season. Chapman-Smith has plenty of Championship experience having played for fellow division side Halifax. He also has a connection to the club as his dad Chris Chapman was also a professional player and represented the Rams in his career. The 22 year old had a good learning curve as a young player as he has come up through the ranks at Betfred Super League side Leeds Rhinos. He’ll wear the number 22 shirt for next season. Dewsbury Rams can announce that we have signed Super League winger Will Oakes on a permanent one year deal. The 21 year old who grew up in Halifax has played at the highest level of the sport and now he will be representing the Rams in the Betfred Championship. Oakes started his career in the Wakefield Trinity scholarship academy, he stayed there for a few seasons before moving to Hull KR to find first team opportunities. The RFL and the Betfred Championship and League 1 clubs are targeting a return in 2021 well before Easter – even if crowds are not permitted until April. The clubs met virtually today and debated a number of possible fixture schedules for 2021 – all of which involve some matches in March. That is likely to involve the return of the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup, possibly on a group basis in the early stages to allow the clubs to guarantee more home fixtures – and provide the realistic prospect of reaching a Wembley final next July.
