We recently celebrated the 47th anniversary of Dewsbury becoming the Champions of Rugby League. Victories against Oldham, Featherstone Rovers and Warrington took us to that sunny day at Odsal, and a stunning final triumph against Leeds. Go round The Tetley’s Stadium on any gameday and you will find plenty who were there watching the heroics of that sensational team – after all it was only back in the seventies! Jack Addy press notice
A press notice was published this week following the passing of club president Jack Addy. Passed away on Friday, 15th May in Pinderfields Hospital with Pat, his much loved partner at his side, aged 81. He will be sadly missed by: His sister Dorcas and her family, His late brother, Derek’s family, His partner Pat’s family, Dewsbury Rams R.L.F.C. The Rugby League Family. Paul Sykes signed for his home-town club ahead of the 2016 season after having enjoyed a distinguished career at Super League and international level. In my lifetime the sport of Rugby Union has never been played at any level in Dewsbury. The neighbouring towns of Cleckheaton, Morley and Ossett have clubs – indeed Cleckheaton & Morley have long proud histories. However, Dewsbury, like most other Rugby League clubs, have their roots in the other code. The great split of 1895 is well documented. A group of clubs in Yorkshire and Lancashire broke away from the RFU to form the Northern Union, and the Northern Union quickly became Rugby League. An update on fundraising for a Jack Addy memorial
Dewsbury Rams has issued an update regarding fundraising for a sculpture in memory of Jack Addy. Jack passed away last week and is fondly remembered by the club for his loyalty and dedication in a range of on and off-field roles. A group of former players have grouped together to commission a sculptor to create a legacy piece that will be erected at The Tetley’s Stadium. The fundraising target is £6,500 and the club has launched a platform for supporters to make a contibution. Car boot sale to return this Sunday
Dewsbury Rams can confirm that the car boot sale at The Tetley’s Stadium will be held this Sunday (7 June). The decision to hold the car boot sale has been taken following consultation with health and safety professionals and is in line with official Government guidance. The car boot sale will re-open at 6.00am. The following measures and requests will be in place: Restricted entry points Hand sanitiser tables at entry points Free entry for buyers, as normal, so no cash changing hands Sellers are asked to have correct change Rubbish may be put into skip directly or left to […]
