Three of our four local National Conference League sides are in action on Saturday. In Division One, Thornhill Trojans will be out to continue their excellent run of form when they welcome Pilkington Recs to Overthorpe Park. Recs defeated Shaw Cross Sharks last week, while Trojans were winners over Ince Rose Bridge. The Sharks will be aiming to bounce back from last week’s defeat when they travel to face Skirlaugh. Grassroots: Celtic juniors take part in memorial festival
Dewsbury Celtic’s under-7s and under-9s teams will take part in a mini Rugby League festival in memory of former Huddersfield Giants player Ronan Costello. The festival will be held at Leeds Road playing fields this evening, between 6.00pm and 8.00pm, in celebration of Ronan’s life. More than 150 children from community clubs across Kirklees and other surrounding areas will participate at under-7s, under-8s and under-9s age groups. The tournament will raise money for Yorkshire Air Ambulance, with all participating teams making a donation to the cause. Shaw Cross Sharks assistant coach Wayne Stead hailed the commitment of the players, despite an ultimately heavy defeat away at Pilkington Recs on Saturday. The Sharks led 6-0 late in the first half, but with many players having also played on Wednesday, the visitors eventually succumbed to a 50-10 defeat. “We had a lack of numbers and a lack of fit bodies,” Stead told the Sharks website. “We suffered two head injuries in the first 20 minutes and then further injuries to people. “I think realistically we only had about nine fit bodies out there, but people put their hands […]

Dewsbury Rams head coach Neil Kelly provided the media with his thoughts following the defeat to Featherstone Rovers on Sunday.
