Grassroots: Sharks secure vital win, victories for Thornhill and Celtic
Shaw Cross Sharks hauled themselves out of the relegation zone in National Conference League Division One with victory over Bradford Dudley Hill. The Sharks led 24-0 at half-time and ran out 36-18 winners thanks to tries from Thomas Stuckey and Shaun Squires, who both scored two, Nathan Wright and Ross Roebuck. Squires kicked six goals. Meanwhile, Thornhill Trojans’ promotion charge continued with a 52-10 win away at Ince Rose Bridge. Rams to show Challenge Cup semi-finals at stadium
Dewsbury Rams will give supporters the opportunity to come down to the stadium on the 5th August and watch the Challenge Cup semi-final fixtures. The games are taking place at the Macron Stadium, Bolton, with both fixtures taking place at the same venue on the same day. St Helens are taking on Catalan Dragons at 12.30pm and then it’s Warrington Wolves vs Leeds Rhinos at 14.45pm. Shaw Cross Sharks head coach Paul March insists survival from relegation is in the team’s hands. Following defeat to Leigh Miners Rangers on Saturday, the Sharks remain rooted to the foot of National Conference League Division One. But of their seven remaining matches, six are at home. Dewsbury Rams were victorious against local rivals Batley Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon, winning the heavy woollen derby 23-20 at the Tetley’s Stadium. Whilst the visitors came up with two late tries to scare the Rams, it wasn’t enough for them to complete the comeback and Dewsbury in the end took the two points. The first ten minutes were a tight affair but it was Batley who scored the first try on the 9th minute, Brad Day ghosted through a gap in the Rams defence to score.
