Everett reflects on progress ahead of clash with old club
In his first full season with Dewsbury Rams, prop Toby Everett says he is loving life at the club, and looking forward to going into battle against one of his former teams, when the Rams face London Broncos on Sunday. The 22-year-old played an important role in the win over Sheffield on Friday, and the Farnborough-born forward is pleased to see the team make a positive start. “It was a tough opponent to have for our first game,” he said. “They are a good side, who gave us a good test on the night, but it was great to get […]
Speakman eyes spot in hooking role
Rams’ Dom Speakman says his priority for 2018 is finding consistency, while also confirming that he is eager to secure a spot at hooker in the match day 17. Alongside Robbie Ward and Sam Day, competition for places in the position is fierce. The former St Helens junior played part of last season in a half-back role, and while he says he’d be open to an opportunity there, he believes he can play his best rugby from acting-half. “I want to play at hooker. I have filled in at half-back, and can play that position when needed, but I really […]
Kelly shares thoughts following final pre-season outing
Dewsbury Rams head coach Neil Kelly thanked the fans of both clubs for getting behind Paul Sykes’ Testimonial match yesterday afternoon. Despite snowy conditions, more than a thousand turned out to celebrate Sykes’ career and see the Rams record a 24-0 win over Bradford Bulls. “Tribute has to go to the crowd for getting down to the stadium in the harsh conditions,” said Kelly. “To have over 1,000 people to come down today and watch the match says a lot about what people think of Paul, but it says a lot about the fans too. “I think the players played […]
Sykes reflects on storied career ahead of Testimonial – Part 1 of 3
Paul Sykes admits there’ll be no shortage of emotion on his part when he steps out at The Tetley’s Stadium for his Testimonial match against Bradford Bulls. The match against Sykes’ first employers as a professional player will provide an opportunity for those in attendance, and the wider Rugby League family, to reflect on the former England and Great Britain international’s fantastic career. “I first got into Rugby League due to my uncle,” he explained. “I was five years old at the time, which seems a long time ago now, and my uncle used to take me to the park, […]
Ward sets goals for 2018
Hooker Robbie Ward is relishing the Rams’ first full season under head coach Neil Kelly, after seeing the team’s fortunes reversed following a poor start to 2017. Under Kelly’s stewardship, Ward was one of the key catalysts behind the Rams’ revival that saw them climb out of the relegation places, and finish the season as semi-finalists in the Championship Shield. “It was a tough start,” said Ward. “We only picked up one or two wins, and that meant it was a tough time to be at the club. When we were playing every week and getting beat, and beat badly, […]
Ken Crabtree
Dewsbury Rams are sad to announce the passing of former committee member, PA announcer and timekeeper, Ken Crabtree. Born in 1926, Ken enjoyed an almost lifelong association with the club. Speaking to the Dewsbury Reporter in 2006, Ken said: “I always loved rugby and tried to get off work on Saturdays for a couple of hours. When Sunday rugby came in it was a real boon to me.” In 1950, Crabtree became a member of the playing squad. Ken recalled: “Jack Holt also played and one night he picked up Harry Hammond and threw him out of the bath. “That […]
