Rams beaten by Toulouse Olympique at the Stade Ernest-Wallon.
After last week’s agonising defeat at the Fox’s Biscuits Stadium against Batley, the Rams faced a trip to the South of France to play the in-form Toulouse Olympique.
The Rams got off to a bad start knocking fifteen metres out on their first set and it got worse when Toulouse put their first points on the board shortly after when Guy Armitage crashed over from short range. Mathieu Jussaume then scored just before the ten minute mark to double the French side’s lead after pouncing on a loose ball.
Paul Marcon added another shortly after and Armitage then scored his second of the game minutes after.
Anthony Marion then touched down a neat grubber to score Toulouse’s fifth try and Ryan Rivett added a four-pointer to his tally after running through a gap in the Rams’ defence.
The final score of the half went to the Rams though when Ronan Dixon managed to get his second try of the season after crashing over from close range.
Unfortunately, the second half started much like the first with Olly Ashall-Bott scoring underneath the posts after a mazy run. Guy Armitage completed his hat-trick on forty-four minutes.
Pierre-Jean Lima became Toulouse’s seventh different scorer of the afternoon after a good offload near the Rams’ line and Baptiste Rodriguez added another try after a scoot from dummy half in the fifty fourth minute.
The Rams didn’t give up though in the sweltering conditions and managed to keep the home side at bay for the rest of the game. With only minutes left Jackson Walker was sent to the sin bin late for a dangerous tackle.
After the game Rams Head Coach Paul March said “It was very tough out there today, especially in this heat. Effort wise, I thought we did very well today but our execution was poor.”
