Greenwood reviews Wakefield defeat

Dewsbury Rams head coach Lee Greenwood believes the match against Wakefield Trinity will stand the team in good stead moving forward.

Despite the Rams losing 30-10 on the day, Greenwood insists there are positives to take from the fixture.

On the result and performance he said: “Overall you can’t say anyone was poor. Just some of them have come off thinking they can do more which is good.

“After the game there was a sense of we could have done more. I thought we competed alright, however there was a sense we could have done more as staff and players but that isn’t a bad thing.

“It was a difficult first half, it had a mix of things. Wakefield being dominant and us making some errors. I was disappointed with the first three tries. I thought we defended at times really well but to concede those tries was disappointing.

“On the few occasions we got near their line we dropped the ball twice. I think the scoreline might be what most folk expected but we all came off a bit flat with a sense we could have done a bit better. However let’s take that as a positive.

“When we did get some attacking shape we showed we can definitely play and we can score tries.

“Some of the things we expected like them to be more physically dominant. That’s natural, they are full time and we are part time. Let’s just remember that people like Michael Knowles and Keenen Tomlinson have put an 80 minute shift in, in the second row.

“There were positives to take out of the game to go into next week with. There were patches where we showed we have more than enough to beat Whitehaven. There were moments we can look back on too though knowing we can improve.”
