Goole Vikings vs Dewsbury Rams Match Report

Goole Vikings vs Dewsbury Rams Match Report – 9/3/25

Dewsbury Rams secured their first two points of the season with a hard-fought 22-16 victory over Goole Vikings.

Dewsbury started the game the quicker of the two sides, but it was Goole who gifted them possession and territory early on. Caelum Jordan had the first opportunity to put the Rams on the scoreboard when Tommy Brierley dummied a pass to him, but the second-row forward unfortunately knocked on.

The pressure, however, soon paid off as the visitors were the first to register points. Some slick handling down the right flank saw Dan Coates send a precise pass to Tommy Brierley, who battled through the Goole defence to touch down in the corner. Jacob Hookem was unable to add the conversion, leaving the score at 4-0.

Moments later, Joe Summers extended Dewsbury’s lead after receiving a well-timed pass from Hookem. The second-row forward crossed the line unchallenged, and Hookem added the extras to put the Rams 10-0 ahead.

Goole responded determinedly, refusing to back down. Tyler Craig put the home side on the board after slicing through the Rams’ defence following a neat pass from Reece Dean, grounding his try next to the posts.

However, Dewsbury struck twice before the hour mark through Liam Copland. His first came when he outjumped the Vikings defence to claim a high kick in the corner. His second was the result of a superb long-range pass from Hookem, taking the Rams’ tally to 22-6.

Goole fought back valiantly through Thomas Minns, who forced his way over the Dewsbury line. Shortly after the hour mark, Minns struck again to reduce the deficit to just six points, setting up a tense finish for the travelling Dewsbury fans. The Vikings continued to pile pressure on the visitors’ defence, but the Rams held firm. A crucial knock-on by Rutland close to the try line brought relief to the Rams and sent their supporters into celebration.

After the match, Dewsbury head coach Paul March reflected on the performance: “We made it hard work for ourselves again. I thought we started the game defensively like we finished the London game—just too many penalties which put us under pressure.”
