ROVERS BEAT RAMS

Rams beaten by Featherstone Rovers at Millennium Stadium.

After Sunday’s disappointing loss against Swinton, the Rams made the short trip across West Yorkshire to the Millennium Stadium for their penultimate game of the season against Featherstone Rovers.

Caleb Aekins opened the scoring for the home side within ten minutes with a simple finish from close range. This was followed shortly after by a try for Ben Reynolds who stepped his way through the Rams defence to score.

Despite being twelve points down, the Rams were having some pressure on the Featherstone line and halved the deficit when Keenen Tomlinson crossed for his second try in as many games.

The Rams had even more pressure after their try and were looking to bring it level until Featherstone scored a breakaway try courtesy of Ben Reynolds who finished off a long range move to score his second of the night.

To add further insult to injury, just as the hooter was about to sound for half time, Featherstone added a fourth try of the half when Thomas Lacans crossed.

Shortly after the break former Rams captain Jimmy Beckett scored for Featherstone and then Connor Wynne added to Rovers’ tally with a try in the corner just after the fifty minute mark.

Wynne scored again ten minutes later and Connor Jones scored under the posts shortly after for Rovers after collecting a loose ball.

Danny Addy was sent to the bin for a late shot on Reiss Butterworth with just a couple of minutes remaining and Ollie Greensmith scored his third try of the season from the resulting penalty.

Featherstone finished the game with eleven men, just as as the hooter sounded Jack Arnold was sent to the bin for a late shot on Ollie Greensmith. The Rams went for another score on the final play but a cross-field kick was intercepted by Connor Wynne who ran the length of the field to score his hat-trick try.

After the game Ronan Dixon said “I thought we held in the game well, they threw everything at us in the first twenty minute and we got ourselves into the game but it just got away from us there in that second half.”

Our final game of the season sees us take on Sheffield Eagles at FLAIR Stadium on Sunday 29th September, with kick off at 15:00.
