Rams beaten by Swinton at FLAIR Stadium.
After last Sunday’s defeat at The Shay by Halifax Panthers, the Rams returned to FLAIR Stadium aiming to pick up just their second win of the year against Swinton Lions.
After a slow start by the Rams, Jake Spedding scored the opening try for the visitors after a grubber through to the in-goal. The Lions went back-to-back when Jayden Hatton leapt highest to collect a high ball and score.
Things went from bad to worse for the home side when Dan Abram added a third try for the visitors when a ball was fumbled at the back.
Ronan Dixon managed to get Dewsbury on the board though after a powerful run from close range.
On thirty-one minutes the game changed as Gavin Rodden was sent off for Swinton following a headbutt in a melee, Ronan Dixon was also sent to the sin bin for his part in the chaos.
Keenen Tomlinson then scored his first try since his return to the club after a wonderful chip to the corner by Bailey O’Connor was grounded by the flying wingman.
The Rams’ momentum stopped though when they went down to eleven men after Bailey O’Connor was sent to the sin bin for a professional foul, followed shortly after by a penalty goal for Abram on the half time hooter to give Swinton an eight-point half time lead.
The Rams started the second off the second half as poorly as the first when Ronan Dixon was sent to the sin bin for the second time in the game for a late shot and down to eleven, Swinton capitalised as Jayden Hatton scored back to back tries to get his second and third of the afternoon.
The Lions then had another player sent off when Richard Lepori was red carded for another headbutt in a fracas.
Shortly after the Rams looked as if they had got themselves back in to the game when Ollie Greensmith powered over for a try on his return from injuy but despite further pressure and a two man advantage, Dewsbury couldn’t make it count.
After the game, Head Coach Paul March said, “A really disappointing result today, it was a game that we wanted to target and give a real good performance but we gave them an eighteen point lead and we just couldn’t claw it back.”
Next up for the Rams it’s a trip to The Millennium Stadium on Saturday 21st September to face Featherstone Rovers, kick off 18:00.
