EAGLES BEAT RAMS

Rams beaten by Eagles at Olympic Legacy Park.

After Sunday’s defeat against Featherstone, the Rams headed to the Olympic Legacy Park in Sheffield to face the high-flying Sheffield Eagles.

As they did on Sunday, Dewsbury started well and got the first points of the game on the board when Bailey O’Connor calmly collected a Calum Turner grubber to score his first of the season.

The Rams battled well and managed to keep the Eagles at bay until the eighteenth minute when Kris Welham burrowed his way over from close range. Welham followed this up shortly after with his second of the evening after evading a would be tackler.

Dewsbury showed grit to hang in though and levelled the game with a score from Jack Billington who leapt the highest to collect a cross-field kick from Jacob Hookem.

It was the Rams who’d go in ahead at the break, when Calum Turner kicked a drop goal from twenty-five metres out with just seconds left in the half.

The second half started evenly between both sides, but it was Sheffield who scored the first try of the second half when ex-Ram Joel Farrell scored in the fiftieth minute. Further damage was done with another Eagles try on their next set, this time it was Matty Marsh with the try after the Eagles made a break through the middle.

With the Rams tiring, a double from Matty Dawson-Jones then sealed victory for the South Yorkshire side. With ten minutes left, Dawson-Jones was then sent to the sin-bin for deliberately holding on to the ball after he knocked on in the act of scoring what would’ve been his hat-trick try.

With only minutes left, Sheffield got the final points of the game when Connor Bower collected a grubber through to score.

After the game Rams Head Coach Paul March said “Forty minutes we looked good for out there tonight, we had a 100% set completion in the first half and then we’ve come out in the second half, not completed two sets and they’ve got a roll on and the rest is history.”

Our next game sees us face Wakefield Trinity at the DIY Kitchens Stadium on Friday 31st May in the Betfred Championship, with kick off at 20:00.
