GIANTS BEAT RAMS

Rams beaten by strong Giants side in final pre-season fixture at FLAIR Stadium.

After last week’s defeat away at Featherstone the Rams were back at home for their final pre-season fixture, to face Super League side Huddersfield Giants in what were terrible conditions at FLAIR Stadium.

It was the visitors who got the first score of the game after the Rams conceded back-to-back penalties close to their own line, with Elliot Wallis going over in the corner.

Over the next ten minutes the Rams battled back in to the game forcing the Giants to drop out but couldn’t make any impression on the scoreboard.

The visitors then added to their tally through Keiran Rush who broke free from a would-be Rams tackler from close range to score.

As the wind speed picked up and the rain began driving into the faces of the Rams players, Harvey Livett scored for the Giants after some pressure on the Rams line. Esan Marsters then scored in the corner with a little under ten minutes to the break.

It was a very fiery end to the first half, when both Jackson Walker and Jack Billington were carded for the Rams and Giants respectively after a skirmish between the two sides on the half-time hooter.

With both sides down to twelve it was Esan Marsters who scored in the corner to give the Giants the first points of the half, which was followed shortly after by a try from Sam Hewitt. With around twenty minutes until the end of the game, Esan Marsters completed his hat-trick, scoring just to the left of the sticks after a lovely grubber through to the in-goal area.

The Rams fought valiantly throughout against a strong Super League side and had some good spells of play, so can certainly take positives in what was their final preparation for the first competitive fixture next Sunday.

After the game Rams Head Coach Dale Ferguson said, “I think we can take a lot out of it, we were playing against a top-class outfit who came to play and tried to knock us around a bit but our middle stood up well and can definitely take positives from it going forward.”

Our next game sees us travel to Cougar Park on Sunday 28th January to face Keighley Cougars in a our first AB Sundecks 1895 Cup pool game with kick off at 15:00.
