FINN TO DEPART RAMS

We can today confirm that Head Coach Liam Finn will be leaving the club to take up an opportunity elsewhere.

Former Ireland international Finn joined the club as Head Coach in June 2022 from Halifax Panthers following Lee Greenwood’s departure.

Although he couldn’t prevent relegation in 2022, this year he has successfully guided the club back to the Betfred Championship at the first attempt, winning the Betfred League One title with a game to spare. However, we can now confirm that he will be leaving at the end of the season to take up an opportunity elsewhere.

Prior to making the move to coaching, Finn had a long and distinguished playing career including two spells at the Rams, making 158 appearances and scoring 50 tries. In 2009, Finn was a key member of the Invincibles squad that famously became only the second rugby league club to go a through a full league season undefeated.

Chairman Mark Sawyer said “I’d like to place on record my thanks to Liam for his efforts this season in re-building the side after relegation and getting us promoted back to the Championship.

When he accepted the job, he knew that he would have a difficult task ahead of him, but he has done fantastically well, with the only minor blip being the defeat a few weeks ago.

Although it’s disappointing to see him leave, his performance as Head Coach this season was going to attract attention from other clubs, especially with the seemingly endless changes in coaching staff at different clubs.

Our search for a new Head Coach will start shortly as we look to put the foundations in place for a successful season back in the Championship”.

Finn’s last game as Head Coach will be our final league game of the season on Sunday 27th August against Doncaster RLFC at the Eco-Power Stadium.

On behalf of everybody at Dewsbury Rams we would like to thank Liam for his hard work and efforts during his time at the club and wish him all the best for the future.
