REMBERENCE PLAQUE TO BE UNVEILED

After Sunday’s game against Cornwall RLFC a plaque will be unveiled in the Royal Suite to remember former Dewsbury RLFC player John Davies who died tragically in 1969.

John Davies was just twenty-eight years old when he suffered a fatal heart attack during a Heavy Woollen Derby against Batley RLFC on Tuesday 15th April 1969, leaving behind his wife and two young children, Erica and Richard.

Born in Neath in 1941, Davies was a cross-code superstar having played featured in an international for Wales Rugby Union in 1962, before making the switch to Rugby League.

Fifty-four years later, a permanent tribute to the former Leeds and Dewsbury player will be unveiled in the Royal Suite at FLAIR Stadium after the Cornwall RLFC game, which has been organised by former Rams Director Neil Fahey.

Attending the unveiling will be former John’s former teammates, Mick Stephenson, John Bates and Alan Bates, as well as members of John’s family, who will also be presented with John’s Leeds RLFC Heritage Certificate.

Supporters of both clubs are invited to attend the unveiling post-match.
