Panthers run in thirteen unanswered tries in a difficult evening for the Rams at The Shay.
Following on from a narrow defeat in our last game against Barrow Raiders, the Rams were looking to pick up what seemed an unlikely victory on a re-arranged Tuesday night in Halifax against a side, who going into the game, had won their previous seven.
Unfortunately an early spell of Dewsbury pressure in the opening couple of minutes was as good as it got all evening for the Rams as shortly after an error in the goal area allowed Louis Jouffret to score, followed shortly after by a try from Greg Worthington. The pressure was seemingly relentless throughout the first half and with some good work by Halifax they were able to go into the break twenty-eight points up after further scores from Zack McComb, Joe Keyes, Lachlan Walmsley and Ben Tibbs.
The second half was much more of the same one-way traffic with another seven tries for the home side. Former Rams player Ed Barber picked up the first try of the second half for Halifax. Further tries followed for Walmsley, Tibbs, Keyes and Jouffret before Dan Murray managed to score two almost identical tries in the closing few minutes.
After the game, Head Coach Lee Greenwood said “That was the worst performance and score line that we’ve had since I’ve been here, on the point of being embarrassing. It was always going to be difficult for us, their confidence is high at the moment and ours is low so we had to try and fight early on and grow in confidence, but everything went wrong early, we started badly and got worse.”
Our next game sees us return to the Tetley’s Stadium this Sunday in a massive clash at the foot of the Championship table against Whitehaven RLFC.
