NARROW DEFEAT FOR RAMS

Raiders record their fourth away league victory of the season in a close contest at the Tetley’s Stadium.

Following on from last week’s determined performance against high flying Featherstone, the Rams were looking to pick up their third win of the season against playoff chasing Barrow Raiders.

After a hectic start which saw the Raiders’ Anton Iaria sinbinned in the first couple of minutes, it was the visitors who went ahead after Jarrod Sammut managed to bounce off of a tackle to score, which he converted. The visitors then went further ahead with a try for Jarrad Stack after he bundled over from close range.

The Rams then managed to pull a try back, a fantastic effort Adam Ryder who broke through the Raiders defence and ran thirty meters to score, which was converted by Paul Sykes. The Rams went into the break ten points behind though as Luke Cresswell went over for the away side, converted by Sammut.

The Rams knew they’d have to improve on some sloppy play in the first half and they did almost instantly with a try from Jordan Schofield, who barged over from close range to score under the posts and bring the home side to within four points once again. The Rams then took the lead just ten minutes later when Alex Smith, who was a late replacement from Matty Beharrell, broke the away side’s defensive line and fed Ryder to score his second of the afternoon.

The Rams were looking good at this stage and had several sets close to the Barrow line but couldn’t manage to get further ahead. The Raiders then scored though Stack, his second of the afternoon, to give the away side the lead, which they would keep until the end of the game.

After the game, Head Coach Lee Greenwood said “We’re really disappointed with the result, we just lacked the cutting edge and that killer pass which unfortunately they seemed to have today. It didn’t help that our half back was ruled out just before the game and then our full back goes off in the first half. I didn’t think that there was much between the two teams but they just had a bit more quality and a bit more luck.”

Our next game sees us travel to The Shay to face Halifax Panthers on Tuesday 31st May, kick off 19:30.
