GREENWOOD’S THOUGHTS AHEAD OF BATLEY

Head Coach Lee Greenwood has given his thoughts ahead of tomorrow’s Betfred Championship clash against neighbours Batley Bulldogs.

Reflecting on our last performance against Leigh, Greenwood said “After the Leigh game we weren’t too despondent, we didn’t help ourselves with some of the mistakes we made, but I thought we gave eighty minutes of solid effort and showed a good attitude right to the very end, so we’re not too downbeat.”

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s clash, Greenwood said “Batley are very similar to the strong side they were last year, they’ve got some very good individuals who are up there with the best in the division. They’ve got lots of experienced players who have been around for a long time, so we know we’ll have to be at our best to get a result.”

“We have a couple of players that are available for selection once again, Dom Speakman, Davey Dixon, Harry Kidd and Ben Blackmore are all in the 21-man squad as well as Kyle Trout who we’ve brought in on loan for a couple of weeks from Featherstone, so it’s good to have some more options to choose from.”

Greenwood also gave an update on some of the other injuries within the squad “Ross Peltier is back training again with the physio, so we’re hoping it’s not too long until he’s fully back with the team, Calum Turner has had an operation on his ankle this week so he’s going to be out for a while but unfortunately we don’t have return dates for Jason Walton, Chris Annakin or Dale Ferguson.”

“We’re still on the lookout for players to replace some of the more experienced lads that we’re missing but at the moment it’s difficult because every other team seems to be looking. We don’t have anything immediately in the pipeline, but these things can change very quickly. We’ve got to make sure though that whenever we bring someone in, that we’re going to keep the balance right within the squad.”

“We know that if we play at our best then we’ve got a great chance of winning just like we did last year, we’ve got some experienced heads in Sykes and Knowles who’ll know exactly what to expect, but we’ve also got some younger lads so it’ll be a really good chance for them to test for themselves.”
