GREENWOOD’S THOUGHTS AHEAD OF WHITEHAVEN

Head Coach Lee Greenwood has given his thoughts ahead of tomorrow’s Betfred Championship clash against Whitehaven.

Looking back at last Sunday’s game against Workington, Greenwood said “We had a long video session on Tuesday to analyse the game and it was a really poor performance in every aspect, there are no excuses, we were poor in defence, discipline and attacking threat, there’ll be quite a few changes going into this weekend. The lads have responded positively though and trained well this week and we’ve learnt a lot from analysing the game.”

On Whitehaven Greenwood said “They’ve looked pretty good this season, I thought they looked good up at Newcastle in a high scoring game and they absolutely trounced Doncaster at the weekend with a Doncaster team that I think didn’t look too bad on paper, so they’re scoring points and I think they look as good as they did last year when they made the playoffs. We’re under no illusion as to how hard it’s going to be up there, I think we’ve got a good chance of getting something, but we’ll have to be better than we were at Workington that’s for sure.”

Greenwood also spoke about some of the injuries that he has within the squad at present “Calum Turner’s going to be out for a while which is a real shame, he was getting up to speed looking really good and then gets injured in the first tackle against Widnes. Dale Ferguson suffered a concussion which still isn’t right and Ross Peltier has an injury which doesn’t look good either. Jon Magrin suffered concussion in the game against Widnes and we’re hoping he will be back for tomorrow. Jason Walton injured his knee against York so he’s quite a while away and he’s someone who’d be marked down to be starting in our second row. Brad Graham has been doing a bit of running recently so there’s a chance of him making this weekend, if not he should be alright for the Newcastle game.”

There is also the addition of several players on dual-registration from Hull KR in this weekend’s squad, on which Greenwood said “We’re down on bodies, we only had 18 available for last week’s game and even though we’ve got some players returning we need to strengthen in certain positions and we’re very fortunate to have the partnership with Hull KR that means we can bring in players when needed and if available”.
