GREENWOOD’S THOUGHTS AHEAD OF WORKINGTON

Head Coach Lee Greenwood has given his thoughts ahead of tomorrow’s Challenge Cup clash with Workington.

The Rams travel to Cumbria tomorrow ahead of their fourth round Challenge Cup tie with Workington Town and Head Coach Lee Greenwood spoke about the Rams’ preparation for the game, “I’m really looking forward to Sunday’s game, there are a number of players that will be getting a chance to show what they can do and want to keep their place in the team. We picked up quite a few injuries against Widnes which hurt us during the game and arguably stopped us having a chance of winning. It doesn’t look like any of them will be figuring anytime soon and only Michael Knowles is available to come in from the previously injured players. We are actively looking to bring in people that will improve the team and hopefully we can do that in time for our next league game.”

On what the Challenge Cup means to him Greenwood added “The Challenge Cup has changed dramatically to what it used to be when I was growing up watching it. You now have to get through a few rounds before drawing a topflight team and the financial rewards in the league far outweigh what we can realistically earn in the cup. That being said, I’d love nothing more than leading the team out at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the 1895 Cup. To do that, the first thing we need to do is go to Workington and win.”

On our opposition, Greenwood said “Taking the travel and the conditions out of it, Workington are very difficult to play against. They have competed really well against Newcastle and Featherstone at home and will be certainly looking to beat us. Chris Thorman has done a great job there and on a very limited budget. They aren’t your typical Cumbrian team full of huge forwards trying to wear you out down in the middle but at this time of year that’s what most games are about. Their kicking game is going to be a big challenge for us and we will have to keep Jamie Doran and Dec O’Donnell quiet if we are to progress.”
