Dewsbury Rams defeated Widnes Vikings 22-14 in Widnes on Saturday evening and head coach Lee Greenwood said he was absolutely delighted to get the win.
On the victory he said: “I am very pleased in getting the win and I thought we deserved it over the 80 minutes.
“It was a real determined defensive effort with us taking our chances when they came along. We knew it would take a huge effort to win at Widnes and we did it.
“We put up some great kicks and then the chasers put pressure on the Widnes players who were catching it. They made them make mistakes and then we made sure we had enough players around the ball to capitalise on it.
“Our back three were great at taking the balls in the sun particularly. Everyone 1-17 played well and contributed to the win which was pleasing.”
Although Greenwood was pleased with the win he also believes the Rams can play better.
He said: “We know we can improve on that and play even better. There were a few too many errors in the first half and we’ll have to clean that up. We tightened up in the second half but still made errors.
“For all their ball possession and attacking shape they only scored three tries. I was disappointed to concede those in truth.
“We’ll watch the video back and study Bradford who we play next week and see what we can do against them.”
Finally Greenwood was not impressed with some of the tackles in the match against Widnes.
He said: “We’ll have to check on a few but I am not sure on a few bits of play to be honest.
“Chris Annakin looked like he got an elbow to his throat whilst on the ground. Then Finny (Liam Finn) has taken a few bad ones. He had a shoulder charge in his back after he passed it. Then he got taken out really high late on.
“None of those three bits of play look good to me. For them to not get put on report to be looked at afterwards was ridiculous.”
