The club recently announced its newest player in Keenen Tomlinson.
Tomlinson a former Batley Bulldog who has now taken up the decision to join the Rams for the 2021 season.
On joining the club he said: “I needed a new challenge this year to push myself and I have a little baby girl so wanted to stay near home! I guess I know a little about the club from playing for Batley for last 3 season and know a few of the players.”
The Jamaican international originally started playing Rugby Union but then switched codes whilst still a young age.
“I’ve been playing rugby since I was 7, I started playing rugby union for a team called Moortown it wasn’t till I turned 12/13 when I started playing Leauge for stanningley, I then went and signed my first pro contract for Bradford bulls in 2017.
“I moved to Batley the following year and have been there since. I’ve also got to play internationally for Jamaica.”
When it was suggested if being a winger was his preferred position, Tomlinson’s response was interesting.
He said: “See I’m not a winger my preferred position is back row and then centre, Im a bit of a utility player I can play anywhere I’m needed really, I’ve played prop and wing in the same game haha.”
Having played in the Championship for a number of seasons, Tomlinson is looking forward to getting stuck in for Dewsbury when the season starts.
“Yes I really enjoy this division it’s a very tough leauge where there is no really easy games. You have to bring it every week.
“I’m really looking forward to getting back out there. This is the longest I’ve not played competitive rugby since I started playing when I was 7.”
Finally Tomlinson has some clear goals he wants to achieve whilst at the club.
He commented: “My ambitions are to show how good a player I can be, by cementing a starting spot in the team.
“Then my aim is to be selected for the World Cup and perform to the best of my ability in that.”
