Dewsbury Rams can officially announce that Harvey Burnett has signed for the club, and will pull on the Rams shirt in the 2019 season. Burnett who has previously played at the London Broncos and Oxford, and has the usual position of centre.
On his move to the Rams, Burnett said: “It is a great opportunity to play at Championship level, I have had a pretty rocky road coming from the south, and nothing has been clean cut. It sounds like a good chance for me and with Lee being head coach it wasn’t one i could turn down.
“The North is the birth place of rugby league and whilst there was opportunities down South they are few and far between so coming up here, there is more chances to get a club.
“It was certainly the next step for me, and with the way Lee talks and with everything Dewsbury own and the way the club is set up, it is a great opportunity not just for me but for the club to kick on.
“I have played against Dewsbury a number of times, I know a few players that have pulled this shirt on and they have had nothing but good words to say about the club. I know the club has got a great and proud history.”
On his position, Burnett commented: “I am an outside back or centre, I could possibly play in the back row, I like to play as a centre though usually. That is where I have played most of my games in the past and where I have had most success. I am a bit of a bigger player but i do like to get on the ball and have a run.”
On his new signing, head coach Lee Greenwood said: “Harvey moved to Yorkshire last year to join Bradford but ended up getting a great work opportunity, which meant he couldn’t commit fully to the training schedule.
“He is settled in the area now and can really focus on his rugby career. He has potential to cover a few positions for us and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
