WHITEHAVEN BEAT RAMS

Rams beaten by Whitehaven at FLAIR Stadium.

After last Sunday’s disappointing defeat against Barrow Raiders, the Rams returned to FLAIR Stadium to face Whitehaven RLFC.

Both sides struggled in tough conditions early on but it was the visitors who took the lead when Ryan Hanneghan scored in the corner for Whitehaven. Owen McCarron followed up shortly after with another score to extend the visitors’ lead.

With five minutes until the break, Mac Walsh extended Whitehaven’s lead to sixteen and just before the break things went from bad to worse for the Rams when Dale Ferguson was sent off for a high shot.

The Rams needed a good start to the second half and did so when Bailey O’Connor cut through the Whitehaven defence to score. Lachlan Hanneghan extended the Whitehaven lead to fourteen when kicked a penalty from fifteen metres out.

Jack Billington gave the Rams some late hope with his fifth try of the season but it wasn’t enough. Defeat also meant that the Rams’ relegation to Betfred League One was confirmed.

After the game, Head Coach Paul March said, “Where do I start? That was embarrassing in parts today, they’ve come and had nothing to lose and we’ve come out with a lacklustre performance.”
