ROVERS BEAT RAMS

Rams beaten by Featherstone at FLAIR Stadium.

With a weekend off following the defeat against Toulouse, the Rams returned back to FLAIR Stadium to face Featherstone Rovers.

The Rams made a fantastic start to the game and got the reward their efforts deserved when Matt Garside collected a Jacob Hookem grubber to score the opening points of the afternoon.

The start soon got even better for the home side as Owen Restall finished off a lovely flowing move to notch his fourth try of the season.

After twenty minutes, the visitors had their first real sustained bit of pressure in the game and scored through Connor Jones who wriggled over from dummy half.

Featherstone then scored again just after the half hour mark when Paul Turner escaped a couple of Dewsbury defenders. Things got worse for the Rams after thirty-three minutes when Jacob Hookem was shown a Yellow Card for a push off the ball.

Featherstone took full advantage of the sin-binning, scoring another two tries before the break, first through Nathan Massey and then Greg Minikin, who scored after a good offload from Turner.

The game was still in the balance for the opening minutes of the second half with Dewsbury fighting hard to get back in it, until Featherstone went further ahead when Minikin scored his second of the afternoon.

With the Rams tiring in the sweltering sunshine at FLAIR Stadium the visitors scored two more tries in quick succession, Manoa Wacokecoke firstly touched down in the corner and then a Jack Bussey try followed shortly after.

With just minutes remaining, Rovers managed two more scores, Harry Bowes scored after collecting a grubber and Jones scored his second try after an interception.

After the game, Head Coach Paul March said, “I really thought we started like a house on fire today, but in the end it just got too quick for us, when you’re turning possession over against one of the top four teams in the division, they’re going to punish you and that’s what they’ve done in the second half.”

It’s a trip to South Yorkshire next up for the Rams on Friday evening (19:30) to face Sheffield Eagles at the Olympic Legacy Park.
