GREENWOOD’S THOUGHTS AHEAD OF NEWCASTLE

Head Coach Lee Greenwood has given his thoughts ahead of tomorrow’s Betfred Championship clash against Newcastle Thunder.

Looking forward to tomorrow’s game Greenwood said “We know that we can’t afford to only play for forty minutes like we did against Whitehaven. In that second half we conceded some really soft tries mostly due to fatigue towards the end and we’ve been working hard in training to try and sort these issues, albeit it with limited numbers.”

“Our focus has really been on performing for the full 80 minutes, we’ve either been starting slow and the game has been gotten away from us early on or the other team has run away with it towards the end, we’ve been working on ways to stick in the game for as long as we can, as we did against Sheffield.”

“Newcastle are a good team, I know they’ve had some mixed results but I thought they were every bit as good as Leigh in their last game. They’re a good attacking team, they’ve strengthened their squad and there’s no getting away from the fact they’re going to be favourites, it’ll be difficult for us but I think it’ll be a good test to see if we have improved or not on recent performances.”

“We’ve still got a number of significant absentees missing from the side because of injury and we picked up some additional knocks during the Whitehaven game, but it is what it is, we’re certainly not going to get anywhere sulking and falling out with each other. There’s only going to be hard work that will help us get through it and we really want to give account of ourselves on Sunday.”
