Only one of our town’s community clubs is in action this weekend. In National Conference League Division Three, Dewsbury Celtic travel to face Waterhead. Celtic head into the match on the back of three consecutive victories, while Waterhead are struggling for form in the lower reaches of the table. Celtic currently sit fifth in the ladder, but they have three games in hand on two of the teams in the top three. Grassroots: Trojans host Gala this weekend
Thornhill Trojans will host their first ever Gala Weekend this weekend, across Saturday and Sunday. The weekend features four matches of Rugby League, plus entertainment including live music, bouncy castles, fairground stalls and a barbecue. Andy Burnham becomes RFL President
Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, and former cabinet minister, today began his term of office as President of the Rugby Football League. The Rugby Football League Council meeting, attended by member clubs and other Council members, took place in the formal surroundings of the Officers’ Mess at RAF Waddington, Lincolnshire. The special location was made possible by outgoing President Air Commodore Dean Andrew, Royal Air Force, who, as Air Officer ISTAR, is in command at the RAF base. Kelly reflects on Batley victory and looks ahead to future fixtures
Head coach Neil Kelly was delighted with the win over local rivals Batley Bulldogs but says the focus now turns to Toulouse and the Super 8’s. Rams making progress in the stands
Dewsbury Rams have reported like-for-like increases in attendances across the majority of matches following the culmination of the regular season. Though the club’s overall average attendance has fallen by 8% compared to last year’s figure, attendances for home fixtures against seven of the eight teams the Rams played last year have risen. The recent attendance for the home match against Batley Bulldogs is up 24% on last year’s figure, while the crowd against Halifax is up 94% on last year.
