Speakman Speaks his mind on return to Rams

Dewsbury Rams confirmed that Dom Speakman would be returning to the club for the 2020 season.

The 25 year old has signed a one year deal with the club.

On his permanent return to the club Speakman said: “I can’t wait to get stuck in to the 2020 season, I missed it whilst I wasn’t here which was a huge factor in coming back.

“Lee rang me when he had a bit of an injury crisis, I’d spoke with him a couple of times but I couldn’t make it fit with work. I managed to switch a couple of things around and dived in.”

Speakman insists that head coach Lee Greenwood was a big factor in him returning to the club.

“Lee was great with me coming back.” He said.

He continued: “Like I said I had spoke a few times over the course of the season with him and he has shown some faith signing me and throwing me straight back in the mix. We got the job done and stayed safe, it’s time to kick on in 2020!”

Whilst Speakman was away the club made some significant changes to it’s facility set up. Such as creating a 3G pitch, two small five-a-side pitches and creating a wrestle room and gym. Speakman was pleased to see the improvements the club were trying to make off the pitch as well as on it.

He said: “It’s improved year on year since I’ve been at the Rams, it’s a well ran club, from the top all the way down. It adds that bit of professionalism you need to keep up with the full time sides.”

The former Widnes player can’t wait to get back playing in front of the loyal Dewsbury fan base at the Tetley’s stadium.

“The fans have been great with me since I came, it’s a really good community club who all do their bit to chip in and make you feel welcome.”

Finally Speakman spoke about how hard the Betfred Championship will be next year and his own personal aims.

He commented: “The Championship gets tougher and tougher each season, you have full time sides that have big budgets and the amount they train make it hard to compete with.

“There’s kind of like two leagues combined into one. I’m sure the fans will be happy as long as we finish above Batley and strive to finish as high as possible!

“I’m 25 now with over 100 Championship games so I’m looking to have my best season to date. We have a big pack which is great for a hooker like me.”
