Dewsbury Rams were defeated 22-8 in their final game of the Betfred Championship season, the Rams fought hard but just couldn’t keep the Vikings at bay.

The game didn’t get going whilst the 20th minute and although both sides had opportunities to score neither of them took their chances when going close to the line. It was the visitors who scored the first try of the afternoon on the 20th minute mark when Owen Buckley slid over the whitewash for his first try of the game. Jack Owens was on kicking duty for the Vikings but he missed his first kick meaning the score stayed at 4-0.

In the following ten minutes Dewsbury went close again on numerous occasions but were denied by either dropping the ball, playing a forward pass or a knock on. Then on the 30th minute mark Rob Worrincy made a dash for the line. A brilliant long pass from Sykes found Worrincy all alone on the wing and he managed to plant the ball over the line for his first try of the day. Liam Finn missed the resulting kick which meant the score now stood at 4-4.

The Rams were hoping to get in at half time however Jack Owens came up with the visitors next try of the day just before the interval. He then took the resulting kick which was converted meaning the score stood at 10-4 at the break.

Widnes came out firing on all cylinders after the break and Chris Dean managed to grab a try within the first five minutes. Owens again missed the conversion kick to take the score to 4-14 to Widnes.

Buckley grabbed his second try of the afternoon on the 50th minute and Owens managed to convert the kick meaning the score went to 4-20 to Widnes for the day.

The Rams then tried to get back into the fixture, and with a free flowing move they scored their next try. It was a dangerous game to play with completing so many offloads but the ball eventually went out to Worrincy on the wing who finished off a terrific move.

The final points of the match were scored by Widnes who converted a penalty in the 74th minute, Owens again on point with the kick, that made the final score Dewsbury Rams 8-22 Widnes Vikings.
