Day’s Delight On Winning Man Of Steel Award

Dewsbury Rams hooker Sam Day was delighted to pick up the Man Of Steel Award on Wednesday evening when the Rams had their presentation night.

Day has had an impressive season this year and contributed with both assists and tries, he’s become a real fans favourite on the terraces.

On winning the award, Day said: “Obviously winning any award feels good at any level you play at but the higher you get the more you appreciate them I think. There are some great players in our team which all could have got this award so I was delighted when I was named on Wednesday and now I’m hoping I can just build on this year I’ve had and take it in to next season.”

Day admits that he has really enjoyed this season even though at times the results have been tough to take overall he believes he has had a good year.

He commented: “Personally I have really enjoyed this year despite some of the tough results going against us earlier on, which obviously could have shaped our season totally different it’s been a good year for me.

“Being 25 now you want to be playing week in week out and that was just my main focus this year and I am glad I have been able to do that, then finishing it off winning man of steel has been a great end.”

Day has become a fans favourite and says to win the award means a lot to him whilst representing the club.

He said: “Yes it means a lot, I think when you have the backing off of the coach you play your best rugby and I’m grateful I’ve been able to get as many minutes as I have this year on the pitch.

“I know I have a lot of things i still need to improve on my game but I’m looking forward to this next few years hopefully doing that here. Also the fans have been great, it’s been a tough year and I think all the fans knew that from the start so it’s been great to get their support when it’s been hard and hopefully we can go out on a high and beat Widnes on Sunday.”

Finally Day talked about his aims going forward and says although he hasn’t thought about it much he is confident the club can have a better 2020.

He said: “My aims for the future, I haven’t really thought too much into that, I’m here for the next two years and I am just looking forward to seeing what kind of team Lee can build and I’m 100% sure we will have a more successful season in 2020.”
