Day expressed delight with two tries in Cup win

Dewsbury Rams Sam Day was delighted to get the win against the Swinton Lions in the 1895 Cup.

Day was selected as man of the match on the day, on an afternoon where the Rams won 44-26.

On the result and performance Day said: “It was just nice to win especially after losing like we did last week. I thought we did enough to beat them last week but it was nice to play them so soon and beat them on our own turf.

“I’d definitely swap this for those two points but they beat us, they beat Rochdale and we’ve beaten them today. Hopefully we can now go into next week with a bit more confidence and get the win and two points.”

The Rams will face the Rochdale Hornets next Sunday in the Betfred Championship. It is a huge game but Day insists it is good that the team can go into the fixture off the back of a victory.

He commented: “When we turn it on we can be a real handful for teams. We just need to do it more consistently instead of just doing it once every four week.

“I think we are unlucky to be where we are to be honest, we could have been higher in the league if we had won those games. When you are losing it is hard to be confident but now we have got this win, hopefully now we can bounce into next week.”

Finally Day talked about going through to the next round and the amount of tries he would like to get this season.

He added: “Obviously it’s great to win in this, the next round will be mid-week and that will be tough on the body. However who doesn’t want to play at Wembley.

“I’d like to get to double figures that would be nice, that was my sixth try of the season.”
