Greenwood reviews Swinton 1895 victory

Dewsbury Rams head coach Lee Greenwood was very pleased to go through to the next round of the 1895 cup after beating the Swinton Lions on Sunday.

On the victory he said: “We needed a win, whatever competition it was, even if it was playing against u8’s in the car park we needed a win. We were desperate for it, the lads were getting frustrated with not getting one.

“We have been working hard behind the scenes and we just haven’t been able to get one over the line or see one out. It wasn’t perfect by any means but it was important to get a win, there was some quality moments in there too.

“Just because of the run we are on there are some frustrated and angry players in there because we aren’t winning games. Show me a happy camp that loses games consistently and I will show you a bad group. We are a frustrated and angry group behind the scenes, we feel like we should be on more points in the league table, we feel like we are good enough to get more wins.

“We are happy to be in the next round and you are two games from Wembley, and although it gives us a bit of a headache with it being a mid-week game. We knew that what ever competition we were playing in today we needed to win and that gives you confidence that you can take into next week and our tails are up a bit more.

“It is much easier to look at things you can work on when you have won games certainly for where we are at, there are things to improve upon, but confidence levels should rise this week.

“We haven’t spoke about it yet, we didn’t even speak about what the competition was this week, it was just a case of get us out on that field. I was excited about this one as there was some lads making their debuts, some people were returning who had been out a while, some lads were getting a chance in the team and a good number of lads who were angry and frustrated and wanted to get back out on the field.

“I have never been in a happy camp when you are losing games and it does put smiles on people’s faces just winning. There is still that long term plan that I have been talking about, and that is a lot easier to talk about when you have just won a game.”
