Two on loan to Coventry

Dewsbury Rams can confirm that two players have been sent on loan to Coventry for the next month. Both Jacob Thomas and Toby Richardson will look to get game time at the Bears in League 1.

Richardson who is a prop but can also play in the second row position has become a fans favourite over the last two years. Coming from the amateur game the local lad has played plenty of times for the Rams since 2018. Meanwhile Thomas signed for the Rams in the off season, coming from Australia he was highly rated and has made his Rams debut this year.

On the decision to send the two players out on loan, head coach Lee Greenwood said: “Toby is a player I think has a lot of potential and potential to be a Championship player regularly.

“However instead of giving him ten or five minutes here and there with us, we have managed to get him to Coventry where he’ll be able to get long minutes and it will be good there for him as Coventry have a tough run of fixtures. He’ll now go there and get plenty of game time which will be good for Toby, we’ll then review it and see what is what.

“Jacob Thomas is very similar, for an Australian coming over it is not easy because they haven’t seen conditions like what there is over here before. When it’s wet over there it is still firm under foot whereas here it’s not it’s muddy, and it’s difficult to adjust. I believe Jacob will get better as the season goes on, he just needs to get used to the conditions and the physicality of the game over here. The loan will be good for him because he can go get some minutes under his belt, and again we’ll review things after that.”
