Martin joins Rams

Dewsbury Rams can announce that the club has signed Charlie Martin from League 1 side Doncaster RLFC.

The 25 year old mainly plays in the back-row positions.

He started his career at local side Thornhill Trojans before signing for Castleford Tigers.

Martin has also represented Hunslet and Keighley before moving to Doncaster on a two year deal.

The former Castleford player also had a spell in Rugby Union with Huddersfield RUFC.

However after a brief spell in the Union game, he decided he wanted to persue a career in Rugby League again.

Martin has signed on at the Rams for the 2019 season.

On the move he said: “I know a couple of the players at the club already. The likes of Sam Day and Kyle Trout.

“Kyle told me the club is a good place to be at and it has the ability to grow. He said I would enjoy my rugby at the club and it will be a challenge for me.

“I think I play my better rugby in the tougher games. I just want to show what I can do.

“I have been lucky enough to play a few games in the Super League. I have played in the Championship and in League 1 with Keighley and Doncaster.”

Martin knows what the Championship is all about and he is confident he can make the step up again.

He commented: “I know what the Championship is about. Last year League 1 was a tough competition, you had sides like York, Bradford and Workington plus us (Doncaster) and a few others.

“The Championship will be a tough competition, the play is a lot faster and the games are a lot tougher.

“I am looking forward to playing alongside the calibre of player that is at the club. Hopefully they can help me bring my game on and I can help thir game on too those that are playing outside of me.”

Martin insists that he will look to build on the experiences he has had so far in his career and bring them into his game whilst at the club.

He said: “You learn a lot from the different places you go. From the Union side of things you get a bit more space and obviously playing in Union has helped me add different attributes to my game. Playing in different league’s at different levels does help. ”

Finally Martin gave the Rams fans a hint of what type of player he could be at the club.

He added: “They can expect me to have strong lines and strong defence. I can play in the middle as a centre too so I am a bit of a utility player. My main position is probably back-row but I have played alright for Keighley in the centre position.

“I am hoping I can do a job wherever I am placed on a pitch. I am just there to do a job and make sure I am in that team week in week out.”

If you want to see Charlie in action why not buy a 2019 season ticket.
