Thornhill Trojans and Dewsbury Moor secured promotion with superb victories on Saturday.

Trojans overcame some tough resistance from a physical Lock Lane side to emerge 28-6 winners and confirm their elevation to the National Conference League Premier Division.

Joel Gibson, who has been outstanding since re-joining the club from League 1 Hunslet earlier this year, scored two tries and kicked four conversions, while former Rams Jake Wilson and James Craven, and Nick Mitchell, also crossed the line.

Thornhill have lost just twice in 2018 and sit four points clear of second-placed Leigh Miners Rangers, and seven in front of Lock Lane in third.

The top two from the division are automatically promoted.

Meanwhile, in Division Two, a brace of tries from Sam Thornton propelled Dewsbury Moor to a narrow victory away at Wigan St Judes.

George Croisdale also added four points, while Aiden Ineson kicked two conversions.

The win puts the Maroons three clear of third-placed Crosfields with just one game to play, meaning Moor will compete in Division One next season.

Elsewhere, Shaw Cross Sharks’ relegation to Division Two was confirmed by defeat to York Acorn.

Former Ram Matthew Tebb scored two tries, while Adam Masson also crossed in a spirited display from the Leeds Road side.

Sharks will aim to re-build during the upcoming autumn competition following a challenging campaign in NCL’s second tier.

Finally, Dewsbury Celtic were 36-4 winners against Woolston Rovers.

Celtic have enjoyed a positive campaign in Division Three and have remained in touching distance of the promotion places for the majority of the year.
