Glover sets goals for Eights following this weekend’s break

Dewsbury Rams centre James Glover says the players will enjoy this weekend’s break from action, but insists they’ll return in determined mood for the Super 8s.

“I think a break is needed. People don’t realise how much time part time players have to put in. We work 40-plus hours a week and then go training three or four times, so it does have a massive impact on our bodies and our lives,” said Glover.

“Neil has given us the week off to spend some time with family and friends, so a few of the lads plan to get away for a few days.”

The Rams rounded off the regular season with a spirited performance in defeat away at Toulouse.

Quick-fire tries from the hosts in the second half eventually settled the contest, but Glover says the players can take heart from the display

“Toulouse was, overall, a good weekend. It’s notable that a few players were missing, but I think the players that came in did themselves proud and had a real good dig.

“There were a few times in the game where I thought we could have won it, but then a few quick tries took the game away from us.”

Dewsbury will host Barrow, Leigh and Swinton, and travel to face Batley, Featherstone, Rochdale and Sheffield in the Championship Shield.

The Rams are five points clear of the relegation places and just three adrift of Batley in seventh.

“Survival is the priority for obvious reasons, but we’ve been there or thereabouts for the past few weeks, and I think we can aim up.

“We had a decent performance at Toulouse, a win against Batley the weekend before, and we came up just short the week before that against Sheffield, so we’re definitely going in the right direction.

“It’s fairly tight, but I think if we can chalk off a couple of wins to start with and build on that then we could climb the table.”
