Grassroots: March talks up Sharks survival hopes

Shaw Cross Sharks head coach Paul March insists survival from relegation is in the team’s hands.

Following defeat to Leigh Miners Rangers on Saturday, the Sharks remain rooted to the foot of National Conference League Division One.

But of their seven remaining matches, six are at home.

And March is hopeful that his players can earn enough points to lift themselves out of danger.

“There’s a lot of hope, I don’t think it’s dead and buried,” March told the Sharks website.

“We’ve got six teams at home and one away, and every team that we’re playing is around us in the table, so we’ve got to take positives.

“There were some positives to take out of Saturday’s defeat, and to take out of the Thornhill game the week before, so we’re not all negative.”

The Sharks are level on points with Bradford Dudley Hill and Oulton Raiders, and just a point behind Ince Rose Bridge. Three teams will be relegated.

“It’s just about making sure we turn up each week,” March added.

“We want the lads to enjoy coming to play for Shaw Cross and that’s what we did on Saturday, even in defeat.

“I hate losing, but it’s about making sure we are where we are next year and these next few weeks are massive for us.”
