This weekend Dewsbury Rams are playing Toronto Wolfpack in Canada for the first time in the club’s history.
A few of our supporters have traveled across the Atlantic to watch the team play, and for some it is their first time going to the city of Toronto.
Here is a few key things people might find interesting about Toronto.
The city has approximately a population of 5.6 million people, it is the largest city in Canada and is the capital city of Ontario. Toronto is the fifth largest city in North America, only being beaten by Mexico City, New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. The city used to be called York and it was the capital of Upper Canada in 1793, however the area was renamed Toronto in 1834.
Toronto has 301 days of measurable sunshine, December has the fewest days only 19, while July and August have on average 30 days. The coldest temperature in the city was recorded as -31.3C (-24.3F) on January 4, 1981 with the hottest being 41C (105F) from July 7-9 in 1936.
Over 30% of Toronto’s population speak a language other than English and French, this can be seen first hand when walking around the city’s many destinations and using Toronto’s public transport.
The Toronto Stock Exchange is the third largest in North America and the seventh largest in the world based on capitalization. Toronto ranks second as the world’s most business competitive global city. Over 21 million people visit Toronto on an annual basis. There are about a quarter of a million people who work in tourism and hospitality.
There are many attractions to visit in Toronto, such as galleries, museums, market squares and much more.
