Rams mark the passing of Tony Boothroyd

Dewsbury Rams marked the passing of loyal and long-standing supporter Tony Boothroyd at Sunday’s match against Featherstone Rovers.

A message was read out to the supporters in attendance as follows:

“We would like to announce the passing of Tony Boothroyd, a long-time supporter of the club on Friday 1st June.

“Tony started watching Dewsbury as a child in the late 1940s with his father and grandfather.

“His love for rugby league continued throughout his life and he travelled to watch may of the ‘big games’, including contests featuring touring sides from Australia and New Zealand.

“He also attended Challenge Cup Finals and the Test matches whenever he could, and achieved a life long ambition when he travelled to watch the sport live in Australia.

“Tony was also involved in the development of The Tetley’s Stadium as a director of Beaumont and Blackburn.

“He was proud to be part of the team that designed the new stadium and he was also a sponsor of the club for many years.

“Tony passed on his love for Rugby League, and especially his team, Dewsbury Rams, to his wife, daughter and grandsons who have watched as a family for many years, and who were in attendance on Sunday.”

Everybody at Dewsbury Rams RLFC would like to pass on their best wishes to Tony’s family at this sad time.

His support of the club on many levels was greatly valued and appreciated.
