Match report – Rams defeated by Featherstone

Dewsbury Rams 18-42 Featherstone Rovers

Dewsbury Rams were defeated by Featherstone Rovers on Sunday afternoon at the Tetley’s Stadium.

It was the visitors who took an early lead when Luke Cooper bundled his way over the line to make it 4-0, and Ian Hardman added the extra two points converting his first kick of the day to make it 6-0.

Featherstone extended their lead on the 22nd minute when former Rams player Matty Wildie went over the whitewash. Once again Hardman scored his conversion to put Rovers 12-0 up.

Rovers scored again five minutes later when Jack Ormondroyd collected the ball and ran 60 metres to score his first try of the afternoon. Hardman again converted his kick and the score now stood at 18-0.

Featherstone extended their lead a minute before half time when another ex-Dewsbury player scored, Anthony Thackeray went over the whitewash, and Hardman converted his kick to send the two teams in at half time with the visitors winning 24-0.

Dewsbury scored their first try of the day, eight minutes into the second half, Dom Speakman kicking the ball through for Jordan Crowther to pounce on to. Paul Sykes kicked the conversion to make the score 24-6 to Featherstone.

The Rams started to get some rhythm together and scored again a minute later through Gareth Potts. A brilliant move ended with Potts going over the whitewash to help build some momentum for the Rams. Sykes again kicked for the extra’s and the score now stood at Dewsbury 12-24 Featherstone.

However the momentum that the Rams started to build was suddenly stopped when the visitors scored their first try of the second period. Gareth Hock went over the line from close range and Hardman converted the kick to put the score at 12-30.

Thackeray scored his second try of the afternoon on the 60th minute and Hardman completed the full six points to make it 12-36 to Featherstone.

The Rams scored their final try of the game on the 65th minute when Kyle Trout skipped past the visiting defence to score. With Paul Sykes sin-binned, Dale Morton took the kick and converted to make the score Rams 18-36 Featherstone.

Featherstone went over the whitewash for the final time on the 72nd minute when Jack Ormondroyd scored his second try of the afternoon and to seal the win for Rovers.
