Speakman confident heading into Rovers clash

Dewsbury Rams stand-off Dom Speakman insists the last two results are exactly what the team needed, and says the Rams are ready for the visit of Featherstone.

Dewsbury won their last game, beating local rivals Batley Bulldogs at the Summer Bash in Blackpool. Speakman believes the result has helped to boost the squad’s confidence.

He said: “The last two results are exactly what we needed. The morale in the team is always good but it’s give us a big confidence boost.

“The week off has definitely helped, it’s allowed the lads with niggles a chance of a week off to recover, we don’t normally get that in the season.”

Speakman added that there is a good feeling in the camp, ahead of the visit of top four-chasing Featherstone.

“I’m feeling confident, we’ve played well the past couple of weeks and finally got a result.

“We try to make our home ground a tough place to come to, we just missed out against Toronto so we can hopefully get a result against Featherstone.”

On his own performances this season, the 24 year old says that he is enjoying his rugby a lot more so far this campaign.

He said: “I’m enjoying my rugby more this year after being settled at 9. In previous seasons I’ve had to fill in the halves quite a lot.”

The former St Helens star also confirmed that he’s pleased to have developed good on-field chemistry Aaron Brown in recent weeks.

“I’ve enjoyed the past couple of weeks, setting up or scoring is the same for me as long as I score at least one try a season and get myself off any forfeits at the end of the season then I’m happy!

“I think Browny knows what I’m going to do before I even know, so he’s managed to get on the end of quite a few tries.”
