Rams to welcome special guests from Shaw Cross

Dewsbury Rams will welcome special guests from local community club, Shaw Cross Sharks, at this Sunday’s game against Toulouse Olympique,

The Sharks recently sadly lost one of the club’s closest friends, Damian Tejero, following a battle with cancer, and a group of his closest friends are currently in town visiting the club.

Tejero visited Shaw Cross Sharks as a coach on several occasions, while also helping to set up the now well-established French Exchange scheme. He also brought a team of French girls to play at Shaw Cross.

He was often seen at the club with friends, who are former exchange players now in their 50s, and would often enjoy a weekend of watching Rugby League in the local area.

The group has played a key role in the development and execution of the French Exchange scheme, hosting leaders and coaches, cooking evening meals, and never willing to let go of the fantastic history the French Exchange has created.

The Rams have invited the group to attend Sunday’s match between the Rams and Toulouse as guests of the club.

Rams media manager Steven Downes said: “We recognise the crucial role that our local community clubs play in the development of the sport, and the hours of work that goes in to helping provide youngsters with a platform to not only play the game, but also enjoy new experiences.

“We are happy to extend an invitation to the friends of Damian Tejero, as a small token of our appreciation of the work that they and many others do to support Rugby League in our community and beyond.”
