Though the Rams’ hopes of continuing their strong start to the season were scuppered by the weather on Sunday, there was success for another local team.

Gawthorpe Brass ’85, who are known to Rams supporters as the band behind club song, The Amber Ribbon, competed at the 2018 Yorkshire Regional Championship this past weekend.

Gawthorpe were named 4th section champions and will now head to Cheltenham for the National Championship, where they will represent Yorkshire in the 4th section.

The band also received awards for best soloist and best percussion.

Gawthorpe Brass ‘85 is a thriving local organisation that provides brass lessons, group activities and performing opportunities for young brass players.

Their Youth band and Senior band give regular concerts throughout the year and host classes for “everyone from ages three to 80!”

In 2015, the Rams joined forces with the band to record an official club song.

The song, entitled ‘The Amber Ribbon’, is an adapted version of the soundtrack from the film ‘She Wore a Yellow Ribbon’, which has been popularised in recent years as a terrace chant at The Tetley’s Stadium.

An original version, written and arranged especially for the Rams, was recorded in the Royal Suite at The Tetley’s Stadium on Wednesday 12th July, 2015.

The Rams would like to congratulate Gawthorpe Brass ’85 on their success and wish them the best of luck for the national final.
