Tough opposition can bring the best out in Rams, says Teanby

Though admitting that next season will be tougher than ever, as playing budgets in the Championship continue to rise, prop forward Jack Teanby is confident that the Rams can mix it with the best teams in the division in 2018.

Since graduating from the Rams Reserves side, Teanby has emerged as a true fans favourite at The Tetley’s Stadium, following a series of eye-catching performances in the middle of the park.

“I think we did OK last season. The back end of the year was certainly better than the first part of it,” he said.

“And hopefully with a good pre-season under our belts, this time the start we make can be different.

“It isn’t going to be a an easy challenge, but I don’t see why we can’t go and push certain bigger-spending teams to their limits and give them a real work-out.

“It depends on how we perform as a team, and whether or not we are able to push through the gears to the next level. That’s the goal.

“Obviously, we know that every game will be tough, and there are some good teams in there, like Leigh and Toronto, but we’re looking forward to testing ourselves.”

At just 21, Teanby’s best years are undoubtedly still ahead of him, and the former Wakefield player says he’ll continue to learn from those around him.

“I have had different players beside me, such as Mitch Stringer, who have taught me a lot about the position,” he said.

“I have taken everything I can on board and tried to add it to my own game, while also putting my own style on the prop position, and I will continue to do that.”
