After spending most of his career at Sheffield Eagles and Halifax, Rob Worrincy has signed with the Rams for the 2018 season.
The prolific try scorer spoke to the Rams’ media team on his return to pre-season training.
Rob, you have only had a few training sessions so far, but how have you settled into the group?
“It’s been good. I’ve got my head down and been getting to know faces and names. It’s been a pretty tough start, but that was expected.
“The Rams are a pretty tough side and this has always been the case when I have played against them in the past. Dewsbury always seem to have a tough set of lads and this has to come from a good attitude in training.
The side have some young players coming through, like Tom Halliday, who is quite new to the game and also a winger. Will you look to take him under your wing?
“Of course. I want to try and develop young players and pass on as much knowledge and experience as possible. I feel that is one of the beneficial aspects of the game, where there are always people around to help.
“When I first started out the senior players helped me with information and tips that made me stick with the game and enjoy it. I am more than willing to share my experiences to help bring players on.
Being a rugby player you get to enjoy new experiences by playing against new sides, such as Toronto. Are you looking forward to playing them?
“Rugby league is an initiative sport and the RFL like to try new things and expand the game. I’ve done a few trips to Toulouse, which have been really enjoyable, and the Toronto trip is going to be a really exciting one for the players.
“I think the boys are really excited about playing Toronto, not only in Canada, but also down at The Tetley’s Stadium. I feel that we would like to upset the apple cart, as many people expect them to do amazing things given the squad they have, but at the end of the day they will have 13 players on the pitch just like us. With a good work ethic and some luck we can get a result against them at home.
From a personal perspective, what will a successful season look like for you?
“Hopefully it will see me helping the side kick on from last year and not being involved in trying to avoid relegation. We need to look at the top end of the table and a top six finish would be great. I feel that the club have the facilities and personnel to do this and I just want to add to this as much as possible.”
