As the Rams returned to pre-season training, Rob Spicer spoke exclusively to the media team about the season ahead.
Rob, next season it will be your tenth season with Dewsbury, how do you reflect on your time at the club?
“The club as a whole has progressed in a really good way. Compared to when I first started, the club is definitely heading in the right direction.
“There have been a lot of changes, including the stadium improvements, and the coaching set up.
“The club have a great set of fans and they have supported me every season.
Looking forward to 2018, what are your goals for the coming season?
“I want to play as many games as I can and put myself forward every week. I will train hard and try and keep myself as fit as I can. We have some good players, so you know your spot in the side isn’t guaranteed, but I will fight for my place.
Do you have a role mentoring some of the younger players?
“We do have a lot of younger lads coming through now, and they do come to me for advice. I am more than happy to give them advice, and if it makes them better players, then it will have been worth it. I will do my best for any of the young lads.
During your time at the club you have seen the competition change with more teams going full-time, such as Leigh and Toronto, what can a club like Dewsbury aspire to?
“If we can go out and try and match teams like that, then we will have done very well. It is difficult for a part-time team, as we are limited to the time we have to train. It will never be a level playing field, just for the fact that we have to work through the day and then come and train, there is a big divide there. This season looks like it will be the toughest out of my ten years at the club.”
